Job summary

University West Pet Clinic is seeking a Front Office Coordinator to join our busy animal hospital in Des Moines. The position emphasizes excellent customer service, sharp communication, and a proactive approach to support veterinary care.

The role includes scheduling, medication handling, client communication, and front desk duties. Candidates should have a high school diploma, type at least 45 wpm, and be able to lift 35 lbs. Saturdays required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Ability to type 45 words per minute or more.
  • Ability to lift 35+ lbs.
  • Customer service experience preferred, veterinary knowledge a plus but not required.
  • Must be available Saturdays and varying hours.
  • Must pass a routine background check and drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule appointments and manage the appointment scheduler.
  • Fill medications, prescription diets (up to 35 lbs) and other items.
  • Communicate effectively with clients in various situations.
  • Use computer/technology to retrieve records, print reports, and complete projects.
  • Promote the hospital via social media accounts.
  • Learn and apply knowledge of basic veterinary principals.
  • Cash handling and discharge of patients through veterinary software.
  • Maintain front desk/reception area and act as clinic face.

University West Pet Clinic is a busy animal hospital looking for one more person to add to our team as a Front Office Coordinator (FOC)! If you have excellent customer service and communication skills, have a great sense of urgency, an excellent attention to detail, have a desire to learn about and work in the veterinary medical profession, and love animals, this may be the position for you!

Responsibilities and Duties

Upholding our standards of care and customer service while also:

  • Scheduling appointments and managing the appointment scheduler
  • Filling medications, prescription diets (up to 35 lbs), and other products/items as requested
  • Communicating effectively with clients in various types of situations
  • Using the computer/various technology to accurately retrieve records, print daily reports, and complete projects as needed
  • Promoting the hospital through the use of the hospital's social media account(s)
  • Learning and exercising knowledge in basic veterinary principals
  • Cash handling and discharging patients through the use of veterinary software
  • General maintenance of the front desk/reception area
  • Acting as the face of the clinic, greeting clients and helping them out as needed

REQUIREMENTS

Highschool diploma, GED, or equivalent. A bility to type 45 words per minute or more. A bility to lift 35+ lbs . Customer service experience preferred, veterinary knowledge or experience is a plus but not required. Must be available Saturdays in addition to varying hours throughout the week . Must pass a routine background check and drug screen .

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 36 per week

Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday from 7am - 6pm
  • Saturdays from 7am - 12pm
  • Up to 10 hour shifts on weekdays
