Job description

People's Health Centers, through its mission, provides comprehensive primary healthcare, such as pediatrics, internal medicine, OB/GYN, dental, mammography, behavioral health, pharmacy, WIC, radiology, podiatry and laboratory services, to meet the health needs of the St. Louis metropolitan area. Summary: Provides support with the daily activities of a medical office including filing, telephone coverage, appointment scheduling, registration, and patient referrals by performing the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Register all patients by updating data when necessary.
  2. Assess and confirm patient payment source.
  3. Collect all fees due from patients in accordance with company policy.
  4. Maintain efficient flow of patients to the prospective departments.
  5. Greet and direct patients, salespeople, and visitors.
  6. Reconcile cash to the audit report at the end of each workday.
  7. Inform patients to bring picture identification, insurance card, and co-payment if required, and arrive 30 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment time.
  8. Document the requirements for self-pay patients in the computer system at the time appointment is scheduled.
  9. Answer telephone inquiries, direct callers to appropriate personnel, or initiate a triage slip for response by medical personnel.
  10. Prepare all billings in the computerized system for processing by finance.
  11. Schedule appointments and enter appointment date and time into computerized scheduler.

Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
  1. Associate's degree (A.A.) or Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from a two-year or four-year college or university in Business Administration, or four years related experience and/or training.
  2. Health care experience is a plus.
  3. Must enjoy working with the public.
  4. Ability to handle problems involving patients and maintain a customer-oriented attitude.
  5. Must be experienced with personal computers and have the willingness to learn new software.
