Front Office Assistant - Days - Hueytown, AL

Responsible for appointment scheduling and other related functions; receiving patients and their families; performing duties consistently and accurately to maintain an efficient, friendly work environment; and providing clerical support to the Medical Group.

Responsibilities

  1. Greet and receive patients upon arrival.
  2. Answer phones and schedule all patient appointments.
  3. Prepare new patient charts and enter them into the computer.
  4. Verify patient information/data upon appointment arrival.
  5. Update patient accounts with name/address changes, copy insurance cards, run charge tickets, and organize charts for the physician’s assistant.
  6. Pull, stamp, and prepare charts for exams, immunizations, lab work, or prescriptions.
  7. Schedule consultations with physicians.
  8. Handle calls and messages for physicians.
  9. Communicate policies to potential new patients.
  10. File incoming reports, records, and lab work.
  11. Complete forms such as immunization, daycare, school, and sports forms.
  12. Follow up on “No Show” appointments and document accordingly.
  13. Write doctor’s excuses for school/work as directed.
  14. Call in prescriptions as requested by physicians.
  15. Distribute prescriptions and forms for immunizations, school, or camp.
  16. Schedule lab work, x-rays, and appointments with specialists outside the practice, determining if referrals are needed.
  17. Complete and document insurance referrals requiring authorization from the PCP.
  18. Copy patient records for transfer to other physicians.
  19. Perform additional administrative duties as required.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

  • At least three years of experience in medical office or healthcare administration. EPIC experience is a plus.
