Job summary

SMBC is seeking a seasoned Front Office Application Platform Support lead in Charlotte to ensure stability and continuous improvement of trading platforms. You will act as the primary liaison among front office users, tech teams, and control functions while maintaining high availability of critical trading workflows.

The role requires hands-on production support, platform ownership, incident/problem/change management, and automation-focused delivery to support business growth and regulatory

Qualifications

  • 8+ years in Front Office application support, preferably eTrading platform management.
  • Understanding of Fixed Income products and trade lifecycle.
  • Ability to operate under high pressure on trading floors.
  • Strong client-service orientation and relationship skills.
  • Proficient in SQL and scripting for monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with regulatory/control frameworks in Front Office tech.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day support for Fixed Income rates and credit trading platforms.
  • Monitor production systems, market connectivity, and pricing feeds.
  • Lead incident, problem, and change management with cross-functional teams.
  • Coordinate releases, testing, and post-implementation validation.
  • Produce operational reporting and postmortem communications to leadership.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and respond to market events.

Role Description

In this role, you will be responsible for the stability, support and continuous improvement of technology platforms that enable the Rates and Credit trading businesses. You will serve as the primary liaison between Front Office users, technology teams, infrastructure groups, vendors, and control functions, ensuring the reliable operation of critical trading, pricing, risk, pnl and electronic execution platforms.

This position combines hands-on production support, platform ownership, incident management, problem management, change management, release management, DR management, project delivery and business engagement, with a strong focus on maintaining a high availability trading environment and delivering technological solutions that support business growth.

Role Objectives
  • Provide day-to-day support for Fixed Income Rates and Credit trading platforms.
  • Monitor critical production systems, interfaces, market connectivity, pricing feeds, and electronic trading workflows.
  • Manage and resolve production incidents, coordinating across development, infrastructure, networking, market data vendors, and business users.
  • Lead root cause analysis and drive corrective actions following production issues.
  • Ensure adherence to support procedures, escalation protocols, and operational controls.
  • 24x7 availability depends on business demand.
  • Act as a primary technology contact for IT teams, traders, sales, middle office, and operations teams.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to understand requirements, prioritize production enhancements, and identify opportunities for automation.
  • Communicate postmortem reports, platform status, incidents, project updates, and operational risks to senior management and business leadership.
  • Produce regular operational and service-level reporting for stakeholders.
  • Monitor electronic order flow, trade execution performance, and connectivity health.
  • Coordinate onboarding activities with trading venues, brokers, vendors and counterparties.
  • Coordinate testing, release planning, deployment activities, and post-implementation validation.
  • Ensure production readiness and operational supportability of new releases.
  • Maintain strong operational controls across supported platforms.
  • Support audit, compliance and user access review activities.
  • Document support procedures, recovery processes, and system dependencies.
  • Identify operational risk and implement preventive controls to improve platform resilience.
Qualifications and Skills
  • 8+ years of experience in Front Office application support, preferred eTrading platform management.
  • Understanding of Fixed Income products, including Treasuries, Bonds, Swaps, Futures, and Credit products.
  • Understanding of the trade lifecycle from order capture through settlement.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a high-pressure trading floor environment.
  • Strong client-service orientation with excellent relationship management skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively during market-impacting incidents.
  • Familiarity with electronic execution venues and market data platforms.
  • Familiarity with the FIX Protocol and electronic trading connectivity.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, scripting, monitoring tools, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with regulatory and control frameworks application to Front Office Technology organizations.
  • Strong incident management, problem-solving, and issue-resolution skills.
  • Analytical and proactive mindset with ownership and accountability for issue resolution.
  • Ability to participate in on-call rotations and provide support during critical market events.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, LogicMonitor, eG, Geneos/ITRS, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with job scheduling tools such as AutoSys.
  • Experience with databases including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and other relational database technologies.
  • Experience developing automation solutions using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar scripting languages.
