Job description

Job Title: Front of House Associate

Reports to: Ellie Watson, Guest Experience Manager

Pay Rate: $16.50/hour

Schedule: Part-time, Seasonal

Description: Front of House Associates are essential to creating a smooth, welcoming, and memorable experience for all CST guests. As the first point of contact for patrons, they play a key role in the flow of audience traffic before, during, and after performances – including walk-ins, late seating, and intermission. Responsibilities include greeting and assisting guests, distributing tickets from Will Call, scanning tickets, and answering patron questions. Associates also contribute to the nightly setup and breakdown of Front of House operations and lobby.

In addition to ushering and ticketing duties, Associates may be considered for positions in concessions and House Management support. Ideal candidates are friendly, dependable, customer-service oriented, and eager to gain hands‑on experience in a professional theater environment.

Central Square Theater is committed to diversity at all levels: on our stage, in our audience, on our staff, and within our leadership. CST is the oldest female‑led professional theater company in New England. We strongly encourage BIPOC and LGBTQ+ candidates to apply.

Duties and Responsibilities

Team members will be cross‑trained in multiple areas – including Box Office, Ambassador, concessions, and house operations – to allow for flexible scheduling and to support all aspects of Front of House needs. This role requires adaptability, teamwork, and a commitment to excellent customer service.

  • Directing guests to the restroom, concessions, lobby, or theater
  • Ensure guest flow during pre‑show, intermission, and post‑show
  • Assist with set‑up of donation kiosk

  • Engaging with customers and taking orders
  • Handling money and products
  • Counting cash and depositing proceeds
  • Restocking products, doing inventory and letting Front of House Coordinator know if we are low or out of items
  • Ensuring the cleanliness and organization of the concessions area
House Manager
  • Oversees the opening and closing of the lobby and house
  • Moves throughout the space throughout the show, checking on various elements such as guest satisfaction, FOH staff, and general show operations
  • Communicates with the Stage Management team to ensure smooth transitions between house and lobby
  • Writes a Front of House report for each show that details significant information from the performance
  • Closes the lobby/theater
  • Assisting with any other tasks that may arise
Qualifications

Applicants must be willing to learn great customer service skills, the ability to maintain calm under pressure, and possess an appreciation for theatre. TIPS or SERVE SAFE certification is required for working Concessions, and will be provided if not possessed. Bystander Intervention and Harassment training will be provided.

This is a part time position. While flexibility is a guarantee, night and weekend availability is a necessity. All candidates are expected to attend our Front of House meetings and dress rehearsals that take place the Wednesday before an opening and supply a minimum of two‑three shifts per week of availability. We do also have the occasional student matinee, so please mention if you have weekday morning availability, specifically Tuesday‑Thursday.
