Job summary

City Fitness is seeking a friendly front desk receptionist to greet members, handle access control, and help create a welcoming environment. You will assist with basic clerical tasks, answer questions, and direct requests while maintaining a clean, organized workspace.

Responsibilities include smoothie preparation and sales, inventory support, and upholding gym policies in a fast-paced setting. This position offers both full-time and part-time shifts with on-site work in Hoboken.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older and have a HS diploma or GED.
  • Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

City Fitness is looking for a customer service champion, a chief of chatter, a first impressions director/good‑day protector, to work our front desk reception and help City Fitness be the best part of our member's day! This role serves as the face of the organization and the initial point of contact for all members and guests. In addition to clerical tasks, this role functions as a facilitator, engaging members, directing requests, and escalating matters when necessary. Specific duties include greeting members and guests, access control, preparing and selling smoothies, answering questions, inventory management, and keeping work areas clean and organized. Qualified candidates will possess strong communication skills and a passion for fitness and helping others.

Position Type / Expected Hours

This role supports both Full‑Time and Part‑Time positions. Available shifts include early morning, mid‑day, evening, and weekend hours. All schedules require a physical on‑site presence, as very little to no function of this position may be completed remotely. Shift assignments are established at the time of hire and should remain consistent within reason.

  • Full‑Time positions require a minimum commitment of 35 scheduled hours per workweek.
  • Part‑Time positions require a minimum commitment of 8 hours per workweek and a maximum of 20 hours per workweek.
Work Environment

This job operates in both a gym and office environment where noise levels vary from quiet to loud throughout the day. This role routinely works with a combination of standard office equipment such as computers, tablets, phones, copiers, filing cabinets and scanners. Individuals must be computer literate and comfortable working with a variety of computer software and information systems.

Role

This role requires a high degree of energy and alertness and the ability to participate in a moderate amount of physical activity. Physical demands include extended periods of standing and frequent work with computers and other digital screens. This role regularly requires a high volume of verbal communication and personal engagement, in conjunction with clerical and administrative work. Shifts generally consist of:

  • Standing & Walking: Frequent standing and walking throughout the shift to greet members, manage the front desk, assist with access control, and move between workstations.
  • Lifting & Carrying: Occasional lifting and carrying of items up to 25 pounds, such as smoothie ingredients, office supplies, or merchandise.
  • Reaching & Stooping: Regular reaching, bending, or stooping to access items at the smoothie bar, re rack weights, restock shelves, or organize supplies.
  • Hand Dexterity: Regular use of hands and fingers to operate a point‑of‑sale system, computer, telephone, and to prepare smoothies.
  • Visual & Auditory Demands: Ability to clearly see and read computer screens, membership IDs, and other documents. Must be able to hear and understand customer questions and respond clearly in a noisy environment.
  • Verbal Communication: Clear and audible verbal communication is required when interacting with members, guests, and staff throughout the day.
Travel

This position requires a minimum amount of travel.

Work Authorization / Security Clearance

This position does not require additional screening.

Salary – Hourly

$18.00/hour – $21.00/hour
