Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is hiring a Commercial CDL Driver to service Charlottesville-area routes, focusing on front-end and roll-off tasks. You will work on everyday local routes with consistent home time, aiming for safety and reliability in handling waste and recyclables.

You should have a CDL Class A or B and at least 1 year of driving experience, with a clean record. The role offers strong benefits and stable year-round hours, with opportunities for growth within a safety‑mocused team.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of commercial truck driving experience or CDL school certification.
• Clean driving record and ability to meet safety-sensitive position criteria.
• Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs and maneuver containers.
• Preferred: prior waste industry experience (front-end, rear-end or roll-off).

Responsibilities

• Operate front-load, roll-off, or related waste equipment on assigned routes.
• Safely maneuver trucks into tight spaces and sites using mirrors and back-up procedures.
• Collect solid waste or recyclables and transport to post-collection facilities.
• Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete VCRs.
• Maintain clear communication with dispatch and serve local business customers.
• Follow all safety rules, PPE protocols, and Lockout/Tagout procedures.

Front-End Drivers operate front-end trucks that provide services to a variety of multi-family residential and commercial routes removing and transporting waste or recyclables in fulfillment of customer contracts. This position will service multiple customers per day according to assigned routes. The waste will then need to be transferred to the appropriate station, landfill or drop-off location.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate commercial front-load, roll-off, or ancillary waste equipment along assigned commercial and multi-family residential routes.
• Safely maneuver trucks into tight clearance spaces, alleyways, and customer sites using mirrors and back-up procedures.
• Mechanically collect solid waste or recyclables and transport materials safely to post-collection facilities, landfills, or transfer stations.
• Perform thorough daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and complete Vehicle Condition Reports (VCR).
• Maintain clear communication with dispatch and provide courteous service to local business customers along your route.
• Follow all federal, state, and company safety rules, including Lockout/Tagout procedures and proper PPE protocols.

Qualifications & Requirements

• License: Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL - Class A or Class B).
• Experience: Minimum of 1 year of commercial truck driving experience (or CDL school certification equivalent). Preferred: Prior waste industry experience (Front-End, Rear-End, or Roll-Off operating experience).
• Safety & Physical: Clean driving record and ability to meet safety-sensitive position criteria. Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs and physically maneuver containers/corral doors as needed. Proficiency operating manual/automatic commercial equipment and navigating local routes using GPS/maps.
