Job summary

Captivation Software is seeking a Front-End Developer with a strong concentration in Section 508 accessibility to ensure interfaces are fully usable by individuals with disabilities.

Job Description

Captivation Software is seeking a Front-End Developer with a strong concentration in Section 508 accessibility compliance to ensure system interfaces are fully usable by individuals with disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Accessible Front-End Development: Design, develop, and maintain front-end components and user interfaces that conform to Section 508 and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1/2.2 AA standards.
• 508 Testing and Remediation: Perform comprehensive accessibility testing using JAWS and other screen readers. Identify and remediate issues involving keyboard navigation, focus management, Accessible Rich Internet Applications (ARIA) implementation, color contrast, and semantic HTML structure.
• Audit and Documentation: Conduct manual and automated accessibility audits, document findings, and produce test reports to support agency compliance requirements.
• Collaboration: Partner with UX/UI designers, developers, and product owners early in the design process to incorporate accessibility by design rather than retrofit it. Provide guidance on accessible design patterns.
• Integration and Delivery: Work with Quality Assurance and DevOps teams to integrate automated accessibility testing tools, including axe-core, Pa11y, and Lighthouse, into the Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipeline.
• Agile Collaboration: Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning and demonstrations, and communicate accessibility requirements and tradeoffs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Security Clearance

• Must currently hold a Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) U.S. Government security clearance with a favorable Polygraph.
• U.S. citizenship is required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• A master’s degree may substitute for two years of experience.

Required Skills

• Proven experience developing front-end applications using modern JavaScript frameworks, with Vue preferred.
• Hands-on experience testing with the JAWS screen reader and working familiarity with other assistive technologies.
• Strong knowledge of Section 508 standards, WCAG 2.1/2.2 Levels A and AA, and ARIA authoring practices.
• Experience with semantic HTML, accessible form design, keyboard navigation patterns, and focus management.
• Proficiency with accessibility testing and auditing tools, including axe DevTools, WAVE, Pa11y, and Lighthouse.
• Experience with Git and Agile collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence.

Desired Skills

• Experience producing Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs) and Accessibility Conformance Reports for federal agency review.
• Familiarity with integrating automated accessibility checks into CI/CD pipelines, such as GitLab CI/CD.
• Experience with Cypress or similar tools for automated user interface and accessibility test scripting.
• Familiarity with cloud-based architecture and deployment using Amazon Web Services (AWS).
• Familiarity with government agency reporting and dissemination policies.
