Job summary

Kroger in Portland, OR is seeking an in-store associate focused on delivering outstanding customer service in a fast-paced environment. You will greet customers, assist shoppers, and maintain a clean, welcoming store experience.

You will process transactions at the check lane, operate the POS, and follow policies on cash handling, loyalty offers, and safety procedures while ensuring accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction).
  • Prior experience as a Bagger or Courtesy Clerk.

Responsibilities

  • Greet, engage, and assist customers.
  • Process customer transactions through the check lane quickly, accurately, and efficiently.
  • Understand the Point of Sale (POS) system, and handle various tenders such as Cash, Checks, Credit, Debit, SNAP EBT, Offline SNAP EBT, WIC, Rain checks, complex loyalty offers, coupons, and checkout procedures according to company policy.
  • Understand and adhere to the company's limits on cash shortages and/or overages and work honestly and effectively to control loss.
  • Understand and adhere to guidelines on restricted sale items (i.e., alcohol, tobacco, DVDs).
  • Report pricing discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator.
  • Follow established policies and procedures (where applicable) for postage stamps, gift cards, and coupons.
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads.
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions, accidents, or issues and notifying store management.
  • Practice preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notifying the appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair.
  • Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store.
  • Adhere to all local, state and federal laws, and company guidelines.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a high‑paced and sometimes stressful environment.
  • Ability to manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational and cooperative manner.
  • Ability to act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
  • Ability to follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.
  • Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and/or older adults.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
