Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Greet, engage, and assist customers.
  • Process customer transactions quickly, accurately, and efficiently.
  • Understand POS system and handle cash, checks, credit/debit, SNAP EBT, WIC, coupons per policy.
  • Adhere to cash handling limits and loss-prevention guidelines.
  • Follow policies for restricted items (alcohol, tobacco, DVDs).
  • Report pricing discrepancies and follow pricing procedures.
  • Follow policies for stamps, gift cards, and coupons.
  • Stay current with ads and promotions.
  • Adhere to food safety and safety procedures; report hazards.
  • Assist with equipment checks and notify management of repairs.
  • Create a welcoming environment and help customers with product questions.
  • Follow local, state, and federal laws and company guidelines.
  • Work cooperatively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Manage conflicts calmly and professionally.
  • Maintain honesty and integrity in handling customer and business information.
  • Follow directions and seek help to resolve issues.
  • Support minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.

Desired
  • Prior experience as a Bagger or Courtesy Clerk
  • Greet, engage, and assist customers.
  • Process customer transactions through the check lane quickly, accurately, and efficiently.
  • Understand the Point of Sale (POS) system, and handle various tenders such as Cash, Checks, Credit, Debit, SNAP EBT, Offline SNAP EBT, WIC, Rain checks, complex loyalty offers, coupons and checkout procedures according to company policy.
  • Understand and adhere to the company's limits on cash shortages and/or overages and work honestly and effectively to control loss.
  • Understand and adhere to guidelines on restricted sale items ( i.e., alcohol, tobacco, DVDs).
  • Report pricing discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator.
  • Follow established policies and procedures (where applicable) for postage stamps, gift cards, and coupons.
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads.
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identify unsafe conditions, accidents, or issues and notify store management.
  • Practice preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notify appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair.
  • Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store.
  • Adhere to all local, state and federal laws, and company guidelines.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in high paced and sometimes stressful environment.
  • Ability to manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational and cooperative manner.
  • Ability to act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
  • Ability to follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.
  • Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and/or older adults.
