Job summary

Kroger in Michigan is seeking a Store Associate to assist customers, process sales, and uphold the company's values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. You will operate the cashier, manage the register, handle refunds and exchanges, maintain clean checkstand area, answer phones, and support store accounting.

Weekend shifts and overtime may be required, with a focus on accuracy and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or GED or equivalent
• Six months cashier experience to work at Customer Service Desk
• Must be at least 18 years old (19 in some states if selling tobacco)
• Ability to pass drug test
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work weekends regularly, shift flexibility and overtime as needed
• Strong organization and task-prioritization skills
• Attention to detail and accuracy

Responsibilities

• Deliver and encourage associates to deliver excellent customer service
• Perform cashier functions including open/close register, ring sales, process tender transactions, bag merchandise, and knowledge of produce codes
• Maintain cleanliness of checkstand area to housekeeping standards
• Answer telephones and comply with corporate policies
• Promote and follow company initiatives
• Verify EAS tags are deactivated/removed at point of sale and respond to pedestal activations as needed
• Maintain all store accounting functions and deposit excess funds
• Open and close the Customer Service Desk
• Process refunds, exchanges, money orders, transfers, bill pay, gift cards, and purchase orders
• Provide lottery service (where allowed) and issue licenses where applicable
• Handle faxes, lost and found, vendor reports, and support a cooperative, calm work environment
• Demonstrate honesty and integrity and follow directions to resolve issues
• Support and assist through direct interaction with customers including minors and seniors
• Must be able to perform essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation

Responsibilities

• Complete file maintenance log for price discrepancies
• Maintain cleanliness of checkstand area to housekeeping standards

• Verify all Electronic Article Surveillance Tags are deactivated or removed from products at point of sale
• Respond to Electronic Article Surveillance pedestal activations and verify tag removal, as necessary

Customer Service Desk

• Open and close desk
• Process refunds, exchanges, money orders and transfers, bill pay, gift cards, purchase orders, equipment rentals

• Run vendor reports
