Job summary

Hanover Consumer Coop Society in Vermont is seeking a Front End Department Supervisor to assist with daily operations, staff training, and the overall customer experience. The role supports scheduling, performance feedback, interviewing, and mentoring, while ensuring the front end is clean, well stocked, and able to process transactions accurately.

This position requires high school diploma, cashier and retail experience, strong communication and organizational skills, and flexibility to work

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 to 4 years cashier experience.
  • 3 years in retail business with experience.
  • Excellent communications and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Serve Safe certification acquired as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the management and coverage of the Front End Department and oversees daily operations to support customer experience and financial performance.
  • Educates staff on membership information to grow membership.
  • Organizes regular monthly meetings with developmental staff for performance reviews.
  • Supports Front End Supervisors in scheduling and ensuring high productivity.
  • Assists in interviewing applicants and checking references for Front End Supervisory positions.
  • Ensures front end areas are clean, organized and well supplied.
  • Acts as mentor to new staff and retrains as needed.

If you’re passionate about community and making a difference, we’d love to work with you.Position Overview:Assists with the management and coverage of the Front End Department, responsible for assisting with training and oversight of daily operations of the Front End to maintain structure and consistency to contribute to the overall customer experience and the financial success of the Co-op.Essential Functions and Responsibilities:Holds effective meetings as requested or needed to enhance communication amongst the supervisor team and department staffEducates staff on membership information to enhance the growth of membership when necessaryOrganizes regular monthly meetings with developmental staff for consistent meetings in regards to overall performance of these assigned staff membersSupports Front End Supervisors in preparing and implementing a schedule to provide excellent customer service and sets guidelines for high productivitySupports and sets guidelines for Front End Supervisory positions when interviewing applicants and checking referencesAssists in developing a plan for staff to meet their individual goalsSupports checkout Shift Supervisors/Supervisors by reviewing and/or assisting in completing disciplinary warnings for staff as requested or neededAssists in developing standards for the checkout departmentsEnsures front end is clean and register areas are uncluttered and suppliedProvides cashiers to do shopping and packing of senior orders and other special orders as needed or requestedAttends Department Manager meetings as requestedIs familiar with the Co-op alarm system and closing proceduresFollows appropriate steps when handlingCommunicates daily with Department Managers and Store Manager.Meets regularly with Front End ManagerPerforms Manager on Duty responsibilities efficientlyDemonstrates and enforces safe and secure money handling procedures with department, according to store policiesEnforce proper procedure in handling paperworkComplete all required department and Co-op trainingHas knowledge and training of phone system- knows how to answer, page, and transfer properlyServes as a mentor to new staff in the department (for those with more years of experience)Re-trains staff as needed or requested, following set training programChecks Co-op email at least once per weekSets standard for expected behavior in adhering to all food safety proceduresAdheres to all Co-op policies, procedures and employee code of conductOther duties as assignedRequired Skills/Experience and Attributes:High School Diploma or equivalent3 to 4 years cashier experience3 years in retail business with experienceExcellent communications and organizational skills requiredMust be able to lift up to 60 lbs. comfortably on a regular basisSet an excellent example for new employeesProficiency in use of computer software, Office 365, Excel and WordSuccessful completion of Co-op customer service trainingServe Safe certification acquired as neededExcellent follow throughEquipment Used:Computer register, scanner, adding machines, computer, knives, box cutters, U-boats, carts, and phone system.Attendance Requirements:Flexible hours, including weekend and evening shifts. Availability to be scheduled to work any day of the week, according to department needs.The salary range for this position is $20.85 to $31.27. This range represents the full earning potential for the role as skills and tenure grow.
