Job summary

The Police Athletic League, Inc. (PAL) in New York City is seeking a Part Time Clerk to greet participants, sign them in/out, and relay information about PAL program services.

The role reports to the Youthlink Director and supports data entry for program participation. Ideal candidates bring a High School Diploma or GED (associates preferred), are at least 18, and have at least two years in a non-profit youth setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum High School Diploma / GED. Associates degree preferred.
• You must be at least 18 years old.
• Minimum of two years' work experience in a non-profit agency working with youth.
• Open to learning and growing; staff will learn mental health, SEL and inclusion skills.
• Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively; bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet participants and families and sign participants in/out during program hours.
• Provide information about program services and keep attendance records.
• Enter data and assist Administrative Assistant as needed.
• Answer questions from parents and staff and distribute information.
• Maintain office procedures aligned with PAL policies and program calendars.
• Build positive relationships with youth, caretakers, and staff; model appropriate behavior.

PAL operates diverse programs for children as young as 2 years old to young adults. Position Summary

We are looking for a Part Time Clerk to greet participants and their families, provide information about program services, sign participants in and out throughout the program operating hours, and enter data that tracks program participation. The Clerk will report to the Youthlink Director.

What You’ll Do

Major Duties & Responsibilities

• Foster social and emotional competencies and mental and physical well-being in a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and nurturing environment.
• Ensure a welcoming but controlled entry into the PAL Center. Greet everyone who enters and ensures proper sign-in procedures.
• Assists Administrative Assistant in entering data or developing materials.
• Answers questions from parents and staff. Distributes information to youth, staff, and caretakers.
• Ensures the program’s office procedures are aligned to strategic objectives of PAL, PAL policies and procedures, agency programming calendar, SACC regulations, and the contractual obligations of government and private funding sources.
• Build positive relationships with youth, colleagues, and caretakers and serve as a role model with respect to demeanor, communication, and behavior.
• Respond appropriately when time-sensitive mental health services are needed such as suicide prevention, grief, and loss due to death or incarceration of a family member.
• Interact with caretakers and keep open lines of communication.
• Attend and actively participate in all required training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.

The Commitment

Able to work 15 hours a week (3 hours a day, 5 days a week)

Able to attend 15 hours of orientation prior to the beginning of programming.

Able to attend scheduled staff meetings and professional development throughout the year.

Qualifications

What You Bring:

• Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively. Bi-lingual in Spanish, French, or Chinese preferred.

Compensation:

The salary for this role is $18.00 an hour.
