Job description

Bering Straits Development Company, a company within the BSNC family, is currently seeking a qualified Front Desk Clerk at the Aurora Inn in Nome, AK. The Front Desk Clerk will be responsible for checking guests in/out, making reservations, keeping the lobby clean at all times, and professionally answering the phone. Other duties may include cleaning the lobby restroom, wiping down tables and counters.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Checking guests in/out
  • Making reservations via phone, walk‑in, or online
  • Keeping work area, lobby, and bathroom clean at all times
  • Renting out vehicles to guests/customers who may need them
  • Greeting guests in a professional and courteous manner
  • Maintaining the security and safety of guests 24 hours a day
  • Completing end of day reports/audits for both Hotel and Vehicle

Required (Minimum) Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Basic math skills
  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Able to work flexible hours including weekends and nights
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of computer systems
  • Ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced working environment
  • Detail‑oriented
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with guests, co‑workers, and management, both orally and in writing
Preferred
  • Knowledge of the reservation system Operations
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining the physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking, or standing for prolonged periods of time. Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about. Must maintain a constant state of mental alertness at all times.

DOT COVERED/SAFETY‑SENSITIVE ROLE REQUIREMENTS
  • This position is not subject to federal requirements regarding Department of Transportation “safety‑sensitive” functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi‑line telephone system. The work described herein is primarily a modern office setting. Occasional travel may be required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • No supervisory responsibilities.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, may be required to pass a pre‑employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results to obtain access to military base. Must have reliable transportation to/from work a necessity and must be able to obtain access to military installations.
