Job description

Overview

The Aircraft Mechanic II maintains, repairs, and modifies aircraft structures and components of moderate difficulty. Responsibilities include maintaining and repairing aircraft components such as flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical parts. The role requires applying technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to diagnose malfunctions and restore equipment to operational condition, interpreting technical documentation like blueprints and manuals.

Responsibilities

  1. Perform depot-level maintenance on the F-18, including troubleshooting, inspection, and repair of:
  • Aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces, controls, engine, auxiliary power units, pneumatics, pneudraulics, ventilation, and heating systems.
  • Repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft structures such as wings and fuselage, including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing, using hand tools, power tools, and machinery.
  • Read and interpret maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, and engineering specifications to determine repair methods.
  • Disassemble, inspect, repair, or replace worn or defective parts, then reassemble.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace aircraft accessories; perform preflight, thru-flight, post-flight, and isochronal inspections.
  • Perform miscellaneous servicing duties: washing, lubrication, servicing of lavatories, liquid oxygen, oil, and water.
  • Record all maintenance work accurately in maintenance records, ensuring work completion and quality.
  • Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
    • Minimum of 4 years' aviation maintenance experience, preferably with the F-18 aircraft.
    • Experience in servicing and inspecting structural, hydraulic, electrical, power plant, and mechanical systems.
    • Proficiency with hand tools, gauges, testing equipment, and support vehicles such as hoists, forklifts, and cranes.
    • Knowledge of troubleshooting, repair procedures, and parts replacement for aircraft components.
