Job summary

Massman Construction Co. seeks an experienced Barge-Mounted Friction Crane Operator to safely operate a friction crane on marine and heavy civil projects.

The role demands strong technical skill, good judgment, and adherence to safety and productivity standards in dynamic marine environments. Candidates must have friction crane experience on barges and clamshell bucket operations, with many years of marine construction exposure and the ability to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of marine construction experience.
• Friction crane experience required.
• 3+ years with H-Piles, Steel Pipe Piles and Flat Sheet Piles.
• 3+ years with vibratory pile hammers, diesel impact hammers, and hydraulic hammers.
• Ability to operate forklifts.
• Unconditional use of Company PPE.
• Must pass pre-employment drug test.

Responsibilities

• Works as assigned by supervisor to ensure the successful completion of marine construction projects.
• Manipulate crane controls to regulate speed, direction of crane and hoist movement.
• Coordinate and perform lifts within crane and safety standards.
• Coordinate with ground personnel and interpret signals.
• Ensure loads are properly rigged and safe for lifting or moving.
• Requisition parts and supplies as needed to maintain crane.
• Maintain crane daily inspection and documentation.
• Follow safety policies and contribute to an Incident and Injury Free environment.
• Operate cranes for projects operating out of the yard.

Primary Purpose

Massman is seeking an experienced Barge-Mounted Friction Crane Operator to safely and efficiently operate a friction crane on marine and heavy civil construction projects. This role requires strong technical skill and judgement, and a proven ability to work in dynamic marine environments. This individual will be responsible for maintaining strict safety and productivity standards.

In order to be considered, candidates MUST have proven experience with friction cranes on barges as well as with clamshell bucket operations.

Essential Job Functions

• Works as assigned by supervisor to ensure the successful completion of on-going or new marine construction projects.
• Manipulate crane controls to regulate speed, direction of crane and hoist movement using foot pedals, levers, dials, and switches.
• Coordinate and perform lifts within crane and safety standards.
• Coordinate with ground personnel and interpret hand and verbal signals.
• Ensures loads are properly rigged and safe for lifting or moving.
• Requisition parts and supplies as needed to maintain crane.
• Responsible for daily maintenance and inspection of crane and documentation of the same.
• Follows company and work site safety policies/procedures and commits to an “Incident and Injury Free” work environment.
• Operate cranes for other projects operating out of the yard.

• Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug test.

Physical Requirements

• Must be willing to take a post-offer physical.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, kneel, crawl, stoop and/or sit.
• Must be able to tolerate rough seas, vibrations, heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels.
• Work will frequently require individuals to push, pull, bend or stand for long periods of time, and climb ladders that have capacity limits of 300 lbs.
• Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies and parts up to 50 lbs. unassisted.

Certification/Licenses
