Job summary

Gallatin County Schools is seeking a qualified athletic coach to lead program development and instruction in a specific sport. The coach will teach fundamentals, enforce discipline, promote good conduct, and support public relations within the school and community.

Responsibilities include planning the athletic program with the athletic director and principal, scheduling practices, supervising coaches, maintaining equipment, and safeguarding participant eligibility and safety.

Qualifications

  • 64 semester hours of college credit from an accredited institution.
  • Kentucky coaches education program certification required.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes all sports in the school and community.
  • Assists athletic director and Principal in planning the athletic program.
  • Schedules, organizes and supervises all practices.
  • Supervises, organizes, coordinates and supports assistant coaches. Makes staff recommendations to Principal and athletic director.
  • Recommends equipment to be purchased to the athletic director.
  • Maintains an inventory of all equipment.
  • Assumes responsibility for teaching individual fundamental skills, team play, team strategy, and rules and regulations of the game.
  • Selects squad members, provides team discipline, morale, leadership, and supervision during contests.
  • Sets an example of self-control and good sportsmanship for players, students, and school patrons.
  • Check eligibility of participants, insurance coverage and parents' consent.
  • Keeps informed of the rules and regulations as established by the director of athletics.
  • Duties may include performance of health services, for which training will be provided.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Job description

Reports to Athletic Director. Administers and implements a sound athletic program in the specific sport. The coach has the responsibility to instruct athletes under their direction in the fundamental skills and strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize some degree of individual and team success. The coach must teach sound social behavior and endeavor to promote good public relations.

Performance Responsibilities

Physical Demands

The work is performed while standing or walking. It requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing. The work requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations. The work at times requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching, with the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of sixty-four (64) semester hours of credit from an accredited college or university
  • Kentucky coaches education program certification
  • Must be 21 years of age
