Job summary

Albia Community School District in Albia, IA is seeking a Freshman Softball Coach to work with the High School Head Coach, lead the freshman program, and develop players’ skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship while supporting students’ academic progress.

You will coordinate practices, game planning, and safety, align with the varsity philosophy, monitor eligibility, manage equipment and travel, and communicate with families while upholding district policies.

Responsibilities

• Plan and run structured practices focusing on hitting, fielding, throwing, pitching, base running, and conditioning; develop game strategies and manage team lineups.
• Evaluate player performance, provide constructive feedback, and bridge junior varsity preparation and varsity readiness.
• Monitor academic eligibility, attendance, and conduct; ensure a safe environment, injury prevention, and adherence to emergency procedures.
• Manage equipment inventory and maintenance, coordinate team travel/transportation, and ensure compliance with state athletic association rules.
• Conduct parent meetings, communicate team schedules and expectations, and represent the school positively in the community.

A Freshman Softball Coach works with the High School Head Coach to lead, organize, and manage the freshman softball programs to develop player skills, foster teamwork, and prepare student-athletes for competitive play

Job Summary

• Primary Goal: Teach softball fundamentals, game strategy, and sportsmanship while supporting the overall growth and academic progress of student-athletes.

• Program Alignment: Work closely with the Varsity Head Coach and Athletic Director to maintain a consistent coaching philosophy from youth/middle school levels up to varsity.

Key Responsibilities

• Practice & Game Management: Plan and run structured practices focusing on hitting, fielding, throwing, pitching, base running, and conditioning. Develop game strategies and manage team lineups.

• Player Development: Evaluate player performance, provide constructive feedback, and bridge the gap between junior varsity preparation and varsity-level readiness.

• Student-Athlete Welfare: Monitor academic eligibility, attendance, and conduct. Ensure a safe environment, proper injury prevention, and adherence to emergency procedures.

• Administration & Logistics: Manage equipment inventory and maintenance, coordinate team travel/transportation, and maintain compliance with state athletic association rules (e.g., IHSAA or VHSL).

• Communication: Conduct parent meetings, communicate team schedules and expectations, and represent the school positively in the community.
