Job summary

L’Alliance New York’s Language Center Preschool in Manhattan seeks a dedicated Full-Time Preschool Assistant Teacher for its French immersion program, serving children aged 2.5 to 5.5. You will support daily classroom activities, assist with curriculum, and help create a safe, welcoming learning environment in a bilingual setting.

The ideal candidate is passionate about early childhood education, collaborative with families, and committed to developing each child in French.

Qualifications

• Must hold valid U.S. work authorization.
• Be a French native speaker.
• Be comfortable communicating in English.
• High school diploma with some college credits (Bachelor’s degree with some education or early childhood credits preferred) and/or a DOH-approved study plan.
• Have at least 1 year of comparable experience in a French immersion or bilingual program.
• Vaccinations for MMR, varicella, pertussis, influenza and hepatitis B as per DOH regulations.

Responsibilities

• Assist the lead teacher in implementing the curriculum and preparing materials for lessons and activities.
• Supervise and engage children during play, circle time, meals, and outdoor activities.
• Ensure safety and remove hazards; observe and respond to injuries.
• Support daily routines: hygiene, transitions, and fostering autonomy.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment.
• Help enforce rules, routines, and positive behavior management.
• Document children’s progress for assessments or reports.
• Communicate with parents under the lead teacher’s guidance.
• Replace the lead teacher in their absence when needed.
• Uphold school policies and philosophy; support remote/online learning when necessary.
