Role Description The Freight Specialist is a full-time, on-site position based in Greenwood, IN. This role focuses on supporting efficient and safe freight movement across Indiana’s transportation network, including highways and related infrastructure. Day-to-day responsibilities include collecting and analyzing freight data, monitoring traffic and freight patterns, and assisting in planning efforts to improve freight corridors and multimodal connections. The Freight Specialist collaborates with internal teams, external partners, and industry stakeholders to address freight-related issues, support project development, and contribute to policy and program recommendations. Additional tasks may involve preparing reports and presentations, responding to inquiries from carriers and community members, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and departmental standards.

Qualifications

  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills, including the ability to work with freight, traffic, or transportation-related datasets.
  • Knowledge of transportation planning, logistics, or supply chain concepts, particularly as they relate to highway and freight operations.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports, documentation, and stakeholder communications.

  • Bachelor’s degree in transportation, logistics, planning, engineering, public administration, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Understanding of state and federal transportation regulations and freight policies, or willingness to learn these standards.
