Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Transport freight across dock area to/from trailers for loading and unloading.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Perform freight handling using appropriate equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
2. Verify documentation matches freight details, including type, weight, and hazardous materials, using electronic or manual systems.
3. Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, or ropes.
4. Recoup or repair damaged freight as needed.
5. Complete required documentation and reports accurately.
6. Assist customers with freight and related documentation.
7. Perform hostling duties if required.
8. Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Experience in warehousing, freight handling, or forklift operations preferred.
• Experience with hostler/yard mule duties preferred.
• Ability to perform basic math and count accurately.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift and carry freight weighing up to approximately 100 pounds and open trailer doors requiring about 75 pounds of force.
• Ability to bend, twist, squat, and push/pull freight throughout the shift.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Dock environment with exposure to weather, exhaust, fumes, dust, and noise. Hours may vary based on operational needs. Frequent contact with personnel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Shift Time: 0500 - 0930

PAY AND ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

Starting Rate of Pay: $20.54/hour
