Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Transport freight across the dock area to and from trailers for loading and unloading.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Perform freight handling using appropriate equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
2. Verify documentation matches freight details, including type, weight, and hazardous materials, using electronic or manual systems.
3. Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and ropes.
4. Recoup or repair damaged freight as needed.
5. Complete required documentation and reports accurately.
6. Assist customers with freight and documentation as needed.
7. Perform hostling duties if required.
8. Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Experience in warehousing, freight handling, or forklift operation preferred.
• Experience with hostling/yard mule duties is a plus.
• Ability to perform basic math and count accurately.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift and carry freight of varying weights, including trailer doors and dock plates.
• Physical ability to bend, twist, squat, push, and pull freight throughout shifts.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Previous dock or warehouse experience preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Dock environment with exposure to weather, fumes, dust, and noise.
• Hours may vary based on operational needs.
• Fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with frequent contact with personnel.

Additional Details:

Shift Time: 0300 - 0830

Starting Rate of Pay: $20.54/hour
