Position Summary

SCC seeks a full-time Freight Farm and Garden Technician to support on-site gardens and operate SCC's freight farm, an innovative vertical farming system. Responsibilities include hydroponic system management, plant care, and educational outreach, promoting sustainable agriculture and student learning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Maintain and care for gardens, greenhouses, and grounds.
  2. Perform agricultural and greenhouse work, including plant care.
  3. Monitor and maintain hydroponic systems, ensuring optimal crop growth.
  4. Check plant health, nutrient levels, and water quality; manage pests and diseases.
  5. Troubleshoot and repair equipment as needed.
  6. Assist in setting up environmental controls.
  7. Support educational programs and workshops on sustainable farming and hydroponics.
  8. Maintain records of crop data and assist in research.
  9. Assist with other initiatives, including teaching courses, as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree in agriculture or related field preferred; or three years of relevant experience.
  2. Experience with hydroponics or greenhouse management is a plus.
  3. Knowledge of planting, pruning, irrigation, and mechanical skills.
  4. Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  5. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends.
Physical Requirements
  1. Lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.
  2. Work in varying temperatures and environments.
  3. Work with plants and potential allergens.
Reporting Relationship

Executive Director, Field to Table Institute

Salary: $21.10 - $23.74 per hour
