Job summary

Railserve is hiring dependable, safety-focused Rail Switching Technicians in Freeport, TX to support daily rail operations at industrial facilities. This full-time, outdoor role keeps railcars moving safely and efficiently. Paid training and pathways for career growth are offered.

Schedule: 40 hours weekly, four 10-hour days; $18.00–$20.00 per hour depending on experience. Benefits start Day 1, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, 401(k) with match, and more.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to pass a physical, hair follicle drug screen, and background check.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and handle equipment (up to ~50 lbs).
  • Climb on and off railcars, ladders, and platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Review track lists to identify railcars for spotting, separation, loading, or outbound movement.
  • Safely connect, secure, and position railcars by setting brakes and verifying couplings.
  • Separate loaded, empty, and pre-loaded cars to support efficient yard flow.
  • Verify weights of inbound and outbound railcars to ensure compliance.
  • Operate switches, derails, and trackside equipment to support safe rail movements.
  • Communicate with crew members using radio, hand signals, and visual indicators.
