Job description

Brookline.News is seeking a freelance reporter to cover climate and the environment.

This is an opportunity to contribute to a small-but-mighty newsroom in an excellent news town,on an important beat for our readers.

Among the stories you’ll be covering are the tensions between real estate development and theenvironment, how Brookline manages and sustains its parks and green spaces, the state ofimportant local natural resources like the Muddy River, and the efforts of a new municipalsustainability division.

The freelance reporter will be compensated with a monthly fee, and will aim to publish 2-3stories per month. Stories will include quick hits on breaking environmental news, features andinvestigative pieces. The editor will assign stories, but you will also be expected to research andpitch stories regularly.

Because this is a freelance position, there are no other benefits offered and no set schedule.

The ideal candidate will have some experience or demonstrated interest in reporting onenvironmental issues, the desire to grow and maintain a beat, and a passion for local news.Knowledge of Brookline is also a plus.
