Job summary

WorkGenius Group is seeking a Freelance Product Development Manager for a part-time, ongoing role based in NYC. The position is remote with onsite meetings as needed, focusing on overseeing the product development calendar from ideation through sign-off-ready garments in the fashion and apparel sector.

You will manage PLM or advanced Excel systems, BOMs and T&A calendars, while coordinating across Design, Technical Design, Fabric, and Production to ensure on-time delivery and smooth handoffs

Qualifications

• 4+ years in product development or production coordination at a design-led fashion brand
• Fluency in tech packs, BOMs, and T&A calendars
• Highly organized and detail-oriented; can manage complex development timelines
• Comfortable owning the full development cycle, including coordination and follow-through

Job description

Title: Freelance Product Development Manager
Industry: Fashion and Apparel
Location: New York, NY
Duration: Ongoing; part-time hours. Start: ASAP. Location: NYC-based remote, with onsite meetings as needed.

Responsibilities

• Own the product development calendar, tracking styles, sample rounds, fit dates, fabric and trim commitments, and factory milestones from ideation through sign-off-ready garments.


• Maintain the product development system of record using PLM or expert-level Excel/Sheets, including version control for tech packs, specifications, and sample rounds.


• Manage trims and hardware organization, including libraries, sourcing status, approvals, and style-level allocations.


• Run the development cadence by coordinating inputs across Design, Technical Design, Fabric, the sample room, and Production; identify slippage and drive decisions to closure.


• Partner with the Production Manager on the transition from development into production, while organizing and presenting open design decisions for efficient meetings.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in product development or production coordination at a design-led contemporary or luxury apparel brand.


• Fluency in tech packs, bills of materials (BOMs), and T&A calendars.


• Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage complex development information and timelines.


• Comfortable owning the full development cycle, including detailed coordination and follow-through.


• Self-starter with a startup mentality and strong garment development knowledge; able to attend onsite meetings in NYC as needed.
