The Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) is seeking a freelance industrial designer to contribute to the cosmetic redesign of an EV charger front faceplate. This role involves enhancing visual appeal while maintaining functionality, requiring expertise in CAD software and experience in injection molding.
We’re seeking a talented freelance industrial designer to help us redesign the front faceplate of an existing AC electric vehicle (EV) charger. This is a cosmetic redesign only—no internal components or structural elements will be altered. The ideal candidate will have experience with plastic injection molded enclosures, a strong sense of aesthetics, and the ability to work within certification constraints (UL compliance).
This project offers the opportunity to contribute to a forward-looking EV technology brand and help elevate our product’s visual appeal while maintaining functional integrity.
Redesign the front faceplate only of an existing EV charger enclosure.
Key Responsibilities
Incorporate new branding elements (logo, colors)
Update the position of LED indicators (purely cosmetic repositioning)
Ensure the new design is compatible with existing cutouts, electronics, and backplate
Provide Deliverables Including
Final 3D CAD model (STEP, STL, and source file—SolidWorks or Fusion 360 preferred)
(Optional) Rendered visuals for internal review
1–2 rounds of design revisions based on feedback
Required Qualifications
Proven experience in industrial design for consumer or commercial hardware
Strong CAD skills (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent)
Understanding of design for injection molding
