Job description

As a Freelance Digital Content Coordinator, you will support the production and QA of websites for our clients, bringing brand stories to life through careful, accurate content entry and digital implementation. You will work closely with our project managers, developers, strategists, and designers to make sure every page is polished, functional, accessible, and true to the creative vision.

This position reports directly to the Website Strategist. This is a freelance engagement; project-based hours may vary based on client needs and project timelines. While we offer flexibility in your day-to-day schedule, availability during Eastern time business hours is required.

Salary: $35-50 per hour

Your Responsibilities

Content Entry and Migration: (50%)

• WordPress Content Entry: Input and validate website content in WordPress (Gutenberg and the classic editor), including page creation, media and file uploads, formatting, and metadata entry. Keep page structure consistent, with logical heading hierarchy, scannable sections, and clear calls to action.
• Page Layout: Use existing component libraries and design systems to lay out visually engaging pages that can be easily scanned by visitors, while providing robust content for search engines and AI tools.
• Content Formatting: Follow the style guide for voice, headings, capitalization, link text, and formatting. Proofread for grammar, accuracy, and consistency.
• Maintain Digital Best Practices: Write and review alt text, captions, and transcripts for accessibility. Optimize images and media (sizing, compression, file naming) before upload.
• Content Migration: Assist with content migration and special projects during website redesigns and other digital initiatives, keeping a detailed record of migrated content, issues, and open questions.
• Revisions: Revise styling, metadata, titles, text, and images as pages move from draft to launch.

Quality Assurance and Collaboration: (40%)

• Cross-Platform QA: Work closely with designers and developers to run detail-oriented quality control on responsive websites across mobile, tablet, and desktop.
• Design Fidelity: Review website design mockups and confirm that what gets built matches the designs.
• Feedback to Action: Listen to internal and client feedback and turn it into clear, actionable next steps for the design, content, and development team.
• Deadlines and Communication: Work closely with Project Managers to keep deadlines on track and communication clear between the internal team and the client.

Accessibility and Best Practices: (10%)

• Accessibility Compliance: Make sure content and metadata follow digital best practices and Section 508/WCAG accessibility standards.
• Accessibility Review: Review existing content for accessibility issues and flag or fix them.

Your Qualifications

• WordPress experience, including working in both the Gutenberg and classic editors
• Able to optimize assets for performance, while maintaining visual integrity
• Familiarity with web accessibility standards (WCAG)
• Familiarity with basic SEO principles (meta titles and descriptions, image naming, permalink structure, etc.)
• Strong attention to detail and proper grammar; editorial or long-form writing is not required
• An organized workspace conducive to remote work, inspiring creativity and professionalism

Nice to Have

• Experience in nonprofit, healthcare, government, and/or cultural institutions
• Experience with Elementor and/or Webflow
• Experience with Figma, or reviewing design files and giving feedback on how designs translate to the web
• Interest in growing technical skills, such as SEO keywords and WordPress integrations
