Position

Hire Heroes USA is seeking a highly skilled Freelance Copywriter/Editor to join our Marketing and Communications team. In this fully remote role, you will create and refine content that maintains our brand voice and standards across multiple formats. You will collaborate with teams across the organization to gather information, clarify messaging needs, and deliver content that supports our mission and strategic goals.

This contractor position requires a weekly commitment of 20+ hours minimum, including participation in virtual meetings to support various ongoing projects.

Responsibilities

• Write, edit, and proofread content to include but not limited to:
• Newsletters
• Marketing collateral and flyers
• Blogs
• Web content
• Donor communications
• Templates and internal documents
• Occasional press releases
• Quickly learn and consistently apply Hire Heroes USA’s established brand tone, voice, and messaging across all content
• Collaborate with teams across the organization to gather information, clarify messaging, and ensure content accuracy
• Adapt messaging for multiple audiences, including clients, donors, corporate partners, and internal stakeholders
• Ensure all content aligns with Hire Heroes USA’s brand voice, tone, and messaging guidelines
• Edit existing content to improve clarity, accuracy, and consistency
• Apply AP style standards with strong attention to grammar, structure, and detail
• Manage multiple projects independently while meeting shifting priorities and tight deadlines
  
  

Desired Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, or related field or relevant experience
• 3-5 years of professional writing and editing experience, preferably with nonprofit or mission-driven organizations
• Strong ability to adapt writing to a defined brand voice across formats and various audiences
• Expertise in AP style, grammar, and editorial standards
• Highly detail-oriented, with strong proofreading and fact-checking skills
• Proven ability to work independently, take ownership of assigned projects, and deliver high-quality work with minimal supervision
• Highly collaborative with strong interpersonal communication skills
• Comfortable balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, fully remote environment
• Proficient with:

Work Environment/Physical Demands

• General office environment; temperature-controlled. Routinely uses standard office equipment, e.g. copiers, phones, computers
• Travel Required: Up to 10%
