The Social Edge is seeking a deeply engaging and highly experienced Freelance Contributing Writer to contribute to our popular Substack publication, The Big Picture.

The Big Picture is a popular publication on Substack, tackling hot-button topics around politics, humanity, economics, and more. A few recent titles include “The Democratic Party’s Path Forward Primary,” “ The Autism Epidemic That Never Was,” and “Can We End the Trump Tariffs?" We are looking to expand our mix of topics, expertise, and voices.

Who you are

You are a highly skilled, engaging, and reliable writer who considers yourself an expert of sorts (or a skilled analyzer) on the topics you’ll tackle. You have an existing catalogue of essays or long form thought pieces. You enjoy deep dives into complex issues and breaking them down for a wider audience. You are passionate about protecting our democracy, uplifting marginalized communities, and building a stronger, more equitable economy. You are invested in the sheer betterment of humanity and enjoy using your voice to build community and usher change. Ideally, you currently share your knowledge with an audience.

You keep a pulse on trending topics and will pitch ideas to our team for approval and collaboration. As a regular contributor to The Big Picture, you will write and deliver two to four pieces for publication each month.

Essential Functions of the job include:

• Write and deliver two to four articles each month
• Have your finger on the pulse of what’s popular online
• Write pieces on trending stories in the news cycle
• Create engaging content for our highly engaged audience
• Incorporate feedback into future work
• Competency in a work-from-home environment - reliable computer, adept with email, Google Suite, and Slack to maintain a steady workflow

This freelance role is remote and requires the use of your own computer.

Preferred Experience

• An existing catalogue of essays or long form thought pieces for review
• A current creator, sharing your opinion with an audience
• Experience writing for a digital publisher on trending topics is preferred, but not required
