Freelance Broadcast Engineer – Live Sports & Events

Are you a technically skilled broadcast engineer with a passion for live sports and event production? We’re seeking a freelance Broadcast Engineer to support high-stakes, fast-paced live broadcasts — covering up to 15 remote sporting events per day.

About the Role:

This freelance opportunity is ideal for a detail-driven professional with a strong foundation in live broadcast systems, graphics integration, and technical troubleshooting. You’ll supervise and collaborate with a team of on-site freelance engineers, ensure seamless graphics delivery, and handle live production challenges with confidence — especially during weekends and holidays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee live on-air graphics delivery for multiple concurrent sports events.
  • Supervise, schedule, and mentor freelance engineering staff on-site.
  • Troubleshoot complex video/audio signal flows across multiple platforms.
  • Manage studio and remote production systems with precision.
  • Ensure critical uptime and quality control in high-pressure environments.

Core Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years in live broadcast engineering or similar roles.
  • Expertise in graphics systems (e.g., Vizrt, Chyron, Ross), SDI routing, and tally systems.
  • Familiarity with video server systems, SCTE, GPI, and remote production workflows.
  • Strong IP/networking skills and knowledge of storage systems.
  • Hands-on experience with KVM, intercoms, and routing switchers (Evertz, Blackmagic).
  • Ability to read technical schematics and construction documents.

Schedule & Location:

  • Must be available for long shifts (10+ hours/day), evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • On-site work required in Stamford, CT.
