Job summary

Complex is seeking a Freelance Design Director in Los Angeles to lead the Branded Art and Design team. You will mentor designers, shepherd concepts from ideation to execution, and partner with editorial, video, account management, product, and experiential teams to deliver iconic visuals.

You should bring a wide-ranging portfolio across digital, print, events, and apparel, with strong Mac design software skills, experience in 3D rendering, and a passion for pop culture and modern brand

Qualifications

• 6–8 years of graphic design and art direction experience within the last 3–4 years at an agency, media publisher, or in‑house brand.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross‑functional teams to ideate and execute branded visuals across digital, print, and experiential media.
• Mentor and guide designers, shaping output to Complex's visual ID.
• Present concepts to senior leadership and clients to secure buy‑in.
• Translate campaigns into display, social, and experiential deliverables.
• Oversee apparel and merch design concepts and production.
