Job Posting: Freelance Art Director – Los Angeles

About Us

Slate Studios is a premier content production company with our flagship studios based in New York. As we expand on the West Coast, we’re looking to bring on a talented Freelance Art Director in Los Angeles to help lead our creative output across fashion, beauty, and lifestyle projects. We’re seeking someone with a strong visual point of view and deep knowledge of the creative culture in Los Angeles.

Position: Freelance Art Director

Key Responsibilities

• Drive the visual direction of campaigns and content across photo, video, and digital platforms
• Collaborate with photographers, stylists, HMU artists, set designers, and other creatives to develop and execute impactful visual narratives
• Create mood boards, storyboards, and art direction decks for client presentations and internal use
• Guide the CGI team to ensure consistency and cohesion across digital and physical content
• Stay ahead of trends in fashion, beauty, culture, and art in the Los Angeles market—and integrate them into creative direction
• Work closely with clients to translate briefs into compelling creative concepts
• Lead creative reviews and provide feedback to junior designers and production collaborators
  
  

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience as an Art Director or in a similar creative leadership role
• Strong portfolio showcasing a range of visual storytelling and art direction across fashion, beauty, lifestyle, and/or entertainment
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator); familiarity with Figma, Keynote, and motion tools is a plus
• Experience in branding and identity development
• Comfortable directing both still and motion shoots
• Working knowledge of UX/UI and digital design best practices
• Confident communicator with the ability to pitch and present ideas to clients and teams
• Excellent eye for composition, color, typography, and visual cohesion
• Based in the Los Angeles area and available for in-person productions
