Job description

We are a hybrid, remote-office company dedicated to growing our talent anywhere!

We have onsite locations in: Sioux Falls, SD, Scottsdale, AZ, Louisville, KY, Troy, MI, Franklin, TN, Easton, PA.

At Pathward, we take tremendous pride in our purpose to create financial inclusion for all™. We are a financial empowerment company that works with innovators to increase financial availability, choice, and opportunity for all. We strive to remove barriers that traditional institutions put in the way of financial access, and promote economic mobility by providing responsible, secure, high quality financial products.

We are a team of problem solvers and innovators who celebrate our differences and know that our unique perspectives make us stronger and well-positioned for success. We celebrate, and embrace, our team members through our *HUMBLE*HUNGRY*SMART approach, and we believe that we are strongest when we embrace the voices of our employees, customers, partners, and the communities we serve.

About the Role:

Responsible for the first-line (Level 1) review, triage, and disposition of fraud alerts and monitoring reports, as well as the investigation and disposition of fraud cases, to detect, prevent, and elevate fraudulent and unusual activity involving Pathward accounts, cards, and services, in accordance with the Enterprise Fraud Risk Management Program and applicable procedures. Analyzes customer and transactional activity across multiple monitoring populations, product types, and fraud typologies; conducts end-to-end case investigations; executes card actions to mitigate loss; and documents findings to a standard sufficient for regulatory, audit, and quality-assurance review. Performs the full range of Case Analyst investigative duties with the exception of Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) and Currency Transaction Report (CTR) filings, which are referred to and completed by BSA/AML Operations. Refers potentially suspicious activity for SAR consideration and escalates matters warranting specialized handling.

What You Will Do:
  • Reviews and triages fraud alerts and monitoring reports across assigned populations (e.g., Velocity Foreign Non-Travel (VFNT), ACH Monitoring, Visa/MasterCard authorizations (VRM/FRM), Potential Fraud (Pfraud), CAMS, Multiple Address/Phone/SSN, Prohibited Countries, and closed-account reviews) to identify and detect unusual or potentially fraudulent activity.
  • Establishes the expected activity profile for the account and product, compares observed versus expected activity, and identifies patterns consistent with known fraud typologies.
  • Makes and documents a triage determination — resolve at review level, consolidate into an existing case, take immediate card action, or advance to full case investigation.
  • Conducts end-to-end fraud case investigations, gathering and analyzing account, transaction, device, and relationship data across systems to confirm or rule out fraud, quantify exposure, and reach a supported disposition.
  • Performs the full range of Case Analyst investigative duties — including case build-out, evidence gathering, narrative documentation, and case closure.
  • Prepares and refers SAR- and CTR-eligible activity, with supporting documentation, to BSA/AML Operations for filing consideration and completion.
  • Executes card actions (block, unblock, close, reissue) on Pathward Managed cards and submits Action Requests for Sponsorship cards through the established process, documenting the basis, date, and system used.
  • Documents all review activity, analysis, and dispositions in Actimize and applicable tracking spreadsheets, clearly and at the time the step is performed, to a standard understandable by a regulator, auditor, or QA reviewer.
  • Escalates SAR-eligible, immediate-attention, terrorist-financing, human-trafficking, or imminent-loss indicators same business day per the escalation procedures and prepares referral information for BSA/AML Operations.
  • Answers inbound and returns outbound calls related to fraud monitoring, card status, and cardholder verification, completing required after-call documentation.
  • Maintains service levels (SLAs), production, and quality standards for assigned workstreams in accordance with policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What You Will Need:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Typically requires less than two years of related experience. Exposure to fraud, payments, banking operations, or customer service required.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in transaction analysis and documentation.
  • Ability to manage a daily workload and meet same-day and SLA-driven deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-sufficient and well organized with support; comfortable working across multiple systems and monitoring reports.
  • Foundational understanding of fraud red flags and typologies (e.g., account takeover, first-party fraud, card-not-present fraud) preferred.
