Job summary

Epic Games, a leading interactive entertainment company in Cary, North Carolina, is seeking a Data Science Intern for the EcoSec team to tackle fraud and abuse detection. You will work with a data science mentor and operations analysts to explore data, build models, and measure impact on player protection.

You will develop features from heuristics, create dashboards, and document your approach so the work can be extended after the internship.

Qualifications

• Experience with Python for data analysis and libraries such as pandas, scikit-learn.
• Ability to write SQL against large datasets to pull and shape data.
• Solid grounding in statistics and ML fundamentals, including classification and evaluation metrics beyond accuracy.
• A desire to develop strong data science and software development skills.

Responsibilities

• Explore large transaction, account, gameplay, and behavioral datasets to characterize abuse.
• Build and evaluate statistical or machine learning models that detect abusive activity at scale.
• Partner with analysts to translate investigation heuristics into model features and measure outcomes.
• Build dashboards or monitoring so the team can track signals without an analyst in the loop.
• Document data sources, methodology, and findings for future extension and present results to the team.
