Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Facilities Projects Supervisor, perform skilled work with no technical supervision, including project-related alterations, repairs, and new installations of mechanical and building systems. Assist in other trades and disciplines at a non-journey level to support the Project Services staff and perform other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform skilled carpentry work supporting new construction, repairs, and renovations, including layout and installation of walls, floors, ceilings, doors, windows, roofs, counters, cabinets, structural steel, reinforcing steel, concrete, asphalt, T-bar, VCT, carpet, window coverings, tile, etc. Ability to read blueprints and create sketches is necessary. Layout and install counters (solid surface, tile, laminate, etc.).
• Lead a crew of skilled workers, coordinate tasks, ensure safety and standards, manage tools and materials, perform take-offs, assist with estimates, provide project updates, and use BlueBeam software for documents.
• Coordinate inspections, testing, and ensure compliance with building codes and safety regulations. Schedule and assist inspectors and safety testing, participate in design changes, and prepare RFIs for project clarification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Perform journey-level skilled work with knowledge of materials, methods, and tools. Use machinery and hand tools effectively, understand safety regulations, read plans, estimate materials, maintain records, follow instructions, instruct others, respond to emergencies, lead small teams, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift up to 50 lbs. Recognize and apply safety guidelines and communicate effectively with a diverse campus community.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma and two years of journey-level carpenter experience with work coordination.
• Four years of increasing responsibility in carpentry or related fields, including lead work and project execution, preferred.
• Proficiency in BlueBeam software or ability to learn within a year preferred.

Physical Requirements

Heavy work involving lifting over 40 pounds, walking, standing, squatting, kneeling, and climbing.
