Job summary

ADP, Inc. is seeking a Foundry Operator to support melting metal, pouring into molds, and finishing castings on a production line. The role involves sand preparation, flask assembly, and general shop duties in a busy foundry environment.

Responsibilities

• Move sand, castings, flasks, or other materials around foundry.
• Assemble flasks.
• Water and mix sand, shovel sand into flask, and compact sand into flasks.
• Spray binder on surface of sand molds and dry surface with blowtorch.
• Fit together, clamp, and unclamp cope and drag on production line.
• Weigh materials for furnace charge and load into melting furnace.
• Skim slag from molten metal surface.
• Carry or push ladles of molten metal on monorail and pour into molds.
• Install and remove steel clamps to hold flasks together.
• Break sand mold from finished casting.
• Sort castings into groups for assembly.
• Clean castings, patterns, and flasks.
• Remove gates, sprues, and projections with sledge, pneumatic hammer, or power hacksaw.
• Break up slag and move to dump.
• Chisel crucibles and ladle linings.
• Prepare plaster and refine ladle.
• Sweep and clean work areas.

Job description

The Foundry Operator assists other workers in foundry concerned with melting metal, pouring metal into molds, removing castings from molds, and dressing castings by performing the following duties.

• Moves sand, castings, flasks, or other materials about foundry.
• Assembles flasks.
• Waters and mixes sand, shovels sand into flask, and compacts sand into flasks.
• Sprays binder on surface of sand molds and dries surface with blowtorch.
• Fits together, clamps, and unclamps cope and drag on production line.
• Weighs out specified amounts of materials for furnace charge and loads charge into melting furnace.
• Skims slag from surface of molten metal.
• Carries or pushes ladles of molten metal on monorail and pours metal into molds.
• Installs and removes steel clamps used to hold steel flasks together.
• Breaks sand mold from finished casting.
• Sorts castings into pairs or groups for assembly.
• Cleans castings, patterns, and flasks.
• Removes gates, sprues, and other projections from castings with sledge, pneumatic hammer, or power hacksaw.
• Breaks up slag and shovels it into buckets for removal to dump.
• Chips out crucibles and ladle linings.
• Prepares plaster and refines ladle.
• Sweeps and cleans work areas.

Requirements

• Basic degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications.
