Job summary

J&T is seeking a Foundry Engineering Manager in Spokane, WA to serve as the primary technical problem solver for the foundry. This hands-on role leads the pattern shop and engineering function, driving scrap reduction, casting quality improvements, and throughput across molding, melting, and finishing.

Qualifications

• BS in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of foundry engineering experience with hands-on white iron or steel casting.
• Demonstrated experience with pattern and method design including gating, risering and solidification.
• Strong, metrics-driven root-cause problem-solving skills including casting defect analysis and scrap reduction.
• Lean Manufacturing knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the foundry's primary technical problem solver, driving throughput and quality across molding, melting and finishing.
• Review scrap and rework reports to identify root causes and reduce scrap.
• Collaborate with molding and melting managers to improve casting quality and reduce downstream finishing, coaching teams on best practices.
• Drive pattern and method design to improve yield and reduce finishing requirements.
• Identify critical control points in the process and implement corrective actions.
• Reduce consumption of foundry consumables without compromising quality.
• Manage the foundry engineering staff.
• Apply statistical methods to analyze processes and defects and set technically sound standards.
• Provide technical support to departments inside and outside the foundry.
• Support new product development by translating customer requirements into producible casting and method designs.
• Recommend improvements to foundry equipment and facilities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
