We are seeking a Founding Product Engineer to join an early-stage, AI-focused technology company building developer-first infrastructure for AI agents.
This is an opportunity for a high-agency, full-stack engineer with strong product and design instincts who has experience owning projects from 0 to 1 in a startup environment.
The company is building infrastructure that enables developers to create and manage AI agents with their own email identities, inboxes, and programmatic communication capabilities. Its platform has already processed hundreds of millions of emails.
You'll work directly with the founders, turn ambiguous customer problems into products developers love, and help shape the product engineering culture from day one.
Build products end-to-end across polished frontend experiences, APIs, backend services, data models, and infrastructure.
Talk directly to developers, explore support conversations and usage data, and identify where customers encounter challenges.
Turn vague customer problems into shipped products, deciding what to build rather than simply how to build it.
Prototype quickly and help shape the developer experience from sign-up through production.
Help establish product engineering practices and design standards as one of the earliest engineers.
Experience as a Product Engineer or Full-Stack Engineer, with a target range of 2-6 years.
Demonstrated experience owning projects from 0 to 1, from identifying a customer problem through shipping a working software product.
Hands-on experience building full-stack solutions across frontend, APIs, backend systems, databases, queues, or distributed systems.
Engineering experience in a high-growth startup environment, particularly Seed through Series B.
Strong product judgment, design instincts, and the ability to identify and solve customer problems independently.
Ability to work across the entire product development lifecycle, including customer conversations, prioritization, design, development, deployment, and measuring results.
A bachelor's degree.
Experience as a founding engineer or early engineering team member at a startup.
Background building developer-facing products, APIs, or infrastructure.
Experience in developer-first, AI-first, or fintech product engineering environments.
Strong TypeScript experience. The primary stack is TypeScript, although candidates who can learn on the job and leverage AI tools are considered.
End-to-end ownership: Engineers are responsible for understanding customer problems and building solutions, rather than relying on detailed product specifications or design handoffs.
Direct customer interaction: Work closely with technical developers, understand their challenges, and see the impact of shipped products.
Founder collaboration: Work directly with the founding team and help influence product direction and engineering culture.
AI-first development: Work in an environment where AI tools support development and strong engineering judgment, product sense, and design taste are highly valued.
Fast-moving startup environment: Join a small, hands-on team where initiative, adaptability, and independent problem-solving matter.
Base Salary: 200,000-250,000
Equity: Competitive
Location: San Francisco Bay Area, California
Schedule: Full-time, on-site five days per week
Work Authorization: Candidates must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents (Green Card holders). Visa sponsorship is not available, and candidates requiring visa-based work authorization cannot be considered.
Candidates should be prepared to describe a full-stack product they personally owned from initial customer problem through development and launch, including the specific components they built the
