Job summary

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is seeking a Founding Principal to lead the launch of AMS Ft. Smith, a public charter school. This role demands strategic, entrepreneurial leadership, a strong instructional background, and the ability to build systems and a positive school culture.

The Founding Principal will train across AMS campuses in Phoenix before opening in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, and will recruit staff, engage families, and establish the school's vision, governance, and operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.
• Arkansas Administrator/Principal License or eligibility.
• Experience in school-site leadership roles (Principal/Assistant Principal or similar).
• Strong instructional leadership and track record in underserved communities.
• Ability to lead adults, manage teams, and build school systems.
• Experience using student achievement data to inform decisions.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement an instructional and operational vision aligned with AMS mission.
• Lead curriculum and instruction to drive student achievement.
• Recruit, hire, onboard, and develop staff; coach and build leadership pipelines.
• Engage families and community stakeholders; represent the school publicly.
• Complete Founding Principal Training across AMS campuses in Phoenix, with travel.
