About the Role
Join an early-stage marketing technology company as its first dedicated platform engineer. You will own the infrastructure and data platform, building reliable, high-performance systems that support real-time data processing and product growth.
What You\'ll Do
- Build and operate the platform that ingests and processes high volumes of real-time data.
- Take ownership of infrastructure and data platform priorities, setting the roadmap for performance, reliability, and scale.
- Work closely with product engineers and technical leadership to build systems for large consumer businesses.
- Develop services and pipelines designed to scale to very high job volumes, evaluating technologies such as Kafka and lower-level languages where appropriate.
- Build data materialization and query capabilities for fast joins and aggregations across large datasets.
- Profile and tune ClickHouse and PostgreSQL, using benchmarks, query plans, and system diagnostics to improve performance.
What We\'re Looking For
- 4 to 10 years of experience in backend, platform, infrastructure, site reliability, distributed systems, or systems engineering.
- Hands-on coding experience and a track record of improving the speed, reliability, and scalability of data-intensive systems.
- Experience across system architecture, databases, and scaling challenges.
- Familiarity with Python, ClickHouse, PostgreSQL, Kafka, distributed systems, real-time data pipelines, and OLAP or OLTP databases.
- Experience operating ClickHouse, PostgreSQL, or Kafka at scale is a plus.
- Strong foundations in computer science, physics, mathematics, or engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Comfort owning open-ended platform work and working closely with a small product and engineering team.
