Job summary

A.T. Still University (ATSU) in San Luis Obispo, CA, seeks a Founding Department Chair and Program Director for the Doctor of Physical Therapy program.

The role provides academic and administrative leadership through candidacy, accreditation, curriculum design, and quality assurance, reporting to ATSU leadership. The successful candidate will lead faculty development, strategic planning, and program assessment, while ensuring CAPTE standards are met and graduation outcomes are optimized.

Qualifications

• Requires CAPTE-related leadership experience and accreditation knowledge.
• Experience with curriculum development and assessment in a CAPTE-accredited program.
• Proven ability to recruit, develop, and lead faculty and staff.

Responsibilities

• Lead all phases of DPT program development, candidacy, accreditation, and compliance.
• Establish mission, goals, curriculum, assessment, and policies aligned with CAPTE standards.
• Recruit, hire, mentor, and evaluate faculty and staff for candidacy and program launch.
• Provide leadership in curriculum design, interprofessional education, and evidence-based practice.
• Develop and manage the department budget and long-range resource plan.
• Oversee admissions strategy, student outcomes, and program performance.
• Foster clinical education partnerships and maintain accreditation readiness.
• Engage with regional health systems and academic partners to support workforce development.
• Balance teaching, scholarship, service, and governance duties with workload policies.
