Job summary

Wintermeyer Ventures seeks its first dedicated design engineer to transform complex biomedical workflows into clear software for patients, clinicians, and internal teams. You will shape the product and design culture as the organization grows.

You’ll own surfaces from sketches to production across React, TypeScript, Python, and PostgreSQL, aligning UX, visuals, and architecture with real-world workflows. On-site in San Francisco, visa sponsorship available, with London option.

Qualifications

• 1-6 years of experience as design engineer/product designer building with code or AI tools.
• Portfolio demonstrating strong visual judgment and thoughtful user experience.
• Experience implementing design ideas independently across frontend and backend.
• Experience shipping consumer-facing or design-led products used by non-engineers.
• Experience at an early-stage startup or strong product ownership in a larger organization.
• Biology/oncology background not required but curiosity and fast learning are important.

Responsibilities

• Design and build patient- and clinician-facing product presenting scientific results and case management.
• Redesign the scientific dashboard overseeing UX, visual design, and implementation.
• Collaborate with clinical, laboratory, manufacturing, and engineering teams to map workflows to interfaces.
• Build internal tools for operational workflows, including patient data access, follow-ups, and partner coordination.

• Improve product and internal systems as the organization and geographic reach grow.

About the Role

Join an early-stage biotechnology team as its first dedicated design engineer, building product experiences for patients, clinicians, and internal teams. You will shape the product and design culture while turning complex scientific and operational workflows into clear, useful software.

What You'll Do

• Design and build a patient- and clinician-facing product that presents scientific results and supports case management.
• Redesign the scientific dashboard, owning its user experience, visual design, and implementation.
• Work with clinical, laboratory, manufacturing, and engineering teams to understand their workflows and create effective interfaces.
• Build internal tools for operational workflows, including patient data access, follow-ups, and partner coordination.
• Take product surfaces from initial sketches to production across React, TypeScript, Python, and PostgreSQL, making sound architecture decisions.
• Improve product and internal systems as the organization and its geographic reach grow.

What We're Looking For

• One to six years of experience as a design engineer, product engineer, or product designer who builds with code or AI tools.
• A portfolio, personal site, or side project that demonstrates strong visual judgment and thoughtful user experience.
• Experience implementing design ideas independently across frontend and backend, with evidence of work beyond generated or prototype-only code.
• Experience shipping consumer-facing or design-led products used and evaluated by non-engineers.
• Experience at an early-stage startup or strong product ownership in a larger organization, beyond primarily agency, consulting, or contract work.
• Scientific or dense-data interface experience is helpful. A biology or oncology background is not required, but curiosity and fast learning are important.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary: $185,000 to $205,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is available.

Location

On-site in San Francisco, California. The role is also open to candidates based in London, United Kingdom.
