Job summary

Pally is hiring a senior to staff level backend engineer to own and scale the infrastructure that powers a consumer AI assistant. You’ll design, build, run, and be paged for reliability as traffic grows weekly.

Expect hands-on work across messaging pipelines, agent runtimes, and scheduling systems in a fast-paced Bay Area team. The role emphasizes scalability, data security, and observability, with a focus on delivering timely, correct responses to users.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of software engineering, with real time on call for systems that handled meaningful traffic.
• Experience with distributed systems in production: queues, workers, retries, idempotency, and scale-related failure modes.
• Strong Postgres and cloud infrastructure knowledge, including schema design and migrations.

Responsibilities

• Messaging pipeline across texts, email, and phone calls with ordering, retries, idempotency, and delivery guarantees.
• Agent runtime: workers and queues, concurrency, timeouts, and recovery when models/tools fail.
• Scheduling: remind me and follow-up actions, time-zone aware.
• Scaling: find bottlenecks, capacity planning, load testing, architecture changes.
• Data, security, and privacy: Postgres, encrypted credentials, and privacy policy compliance.
• Observability and cost: trace, measure latency and cost for every turn.
