Job description

About Veritus

Consumer lending and collections are among the last corners of financial services that AI has not reached. The average collections team still relies on human agents in call centers, dialing as many people as possible. AI can be transformative here, but the regulatory burden makes it very hard for lending and collections teams to put generic AI to work.

Veritus is the solution. We deploy production voice and text agents for consumer lenders and collections agencies, designed from the ground up to be fully compliant and effective in highly regulated conversations. At AWA, one in five collections calls our AI agent handles ends in a payment, 67% of those customers pay on the call itself, and the agent resolves more than 70% of conversations without a human. We are backed by Y Combinator, Crosslink, Threshold, Surgepoint and others. We’ve been growing rapidly with founder-led sales, and this is our first full-cycle sales hire.

The role

You will find your own deals and close them.

Cold calling and conferences are the two strongest channels we have. We publish content, run digital outreach and take inbound as well, but the pipeline that closes tends to start with a rep who dials collections agencies and turns up at the industry events. You will do both, and then you will run what you source all the way to signature.

Outbound. Build the target list, write the sequences, and dial. You own the top of your own funnel, and the best predictor of your success here is how many collections operators you talk to each week.

Conferences and events. RMAI, ACA, Money20/20, LendIt, plus client dinners. Lending and collections is a small world where being known is a real asset. You will work these rooms and own the follow-up that comes out of them.

The whole deal. Discovery, demo, pricing, security review, redlines, signature. The CEO joins the deals that need a founder in the room. You run the rest.

Collections agencies and midsize lenders first. These deals move in weeks rather than quarters, and they are the core of your number.

Enterprise lenders next. Large fintech lenders and credit card issuers are already Veritus clients, and that is the growth path for this role. Those deals take longer and involve more people around the table. Over time they are where your number gets large.

Product input. Every "we already use X", every compliance question you cannot answer, every reason a deal dies comes straight back into the roadmap. You will be closer to the product than anyone outside engineering.

Who you are

Two or more years selling, including at least one closing your own deals. You do not need a long track record. You do need to have taken deals from first conversation to signature yourself. If you have only ever booked meetings for someone else to close, this is not the right seat yet. If you have been an AE with an SDR feeding you and would rather not prospect, it is the wrong job too.

You will pick up the phone. Willingly. Cold calls are still the fastest way into a mid-sized prospect.

You will travel for events. Conferences are where this industry meets, and we expect you to come back from them with pipeline.

You already use AI every day. Claude should already be doing your account research, working out who actually owns collections at a target, drafting outreach that reads like a person wrote it, and pulling apart your call recordings. Show us what you have built.

You will learn the rules. FDCPA, TCPA, CFPB, right-party contact, roll rates, recovery rate. You do not need to know any of it on day one. You do need to be the kind of person who reads the regulation instead of guessing at it, because our clients get fined when vendors guess.

You are in San Francisco, in person. You will sit next to the CEO. Early sales teams learn faster in a room together.

Low ego, high standards. Calls get reviewed candidly here, from the CEO down. You should want that.

Tools you will use on day one

Claude for account research, outreach, call transcript analysis and industry briefings. HubSpot for CRM and pipeline. Apollo for contact data and sequencing. Granola for meeting notes. LinkedIn Sales Navigator for contact discovery. Plus whatever we build internally next, which you get first access to and will help us create.

Why this role, right now

Veritus is growing quickly and there are now more deals in front of us than founder-led sales can run. We are the clear leader in this segment, and the constraint on growth is selling capacity.
