Job summary

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Art (2D/3D Foundations) and Foundations Coordinator beginning Sep 1, 2027. The candidate will lead the Foundations Program while maintaining an active program of creative research and scholarly engagement.

The successful candidate will teach a 2/2 undergraduate load across Foundations courses, provide leadership for cross-campus coordination, mentor part-time faculty, and oversee portfolio

Qualifications

• MFA or terminal degree in Studio Art, Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Interdisciplinary Art, Visual Arts, or related field.
• Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and creative research/scholarship.
• Evidence of active creative research agenda with potential for national/international recognition.
• Commitment to student success.

Responsibilities

• Teach a 2/2 undergraduate load (four 3-credit courses per academic year) within Foundations courses.
• Provide leadership for multi-campus Foundations curriculum across Edinburg and Brownsville campuses.
• Coordinate course scheduling, syllabi alignment, learning outcomes, evaluation protocols, and accreditation standards.
• Mentor part-time faculty teaching Foundations courses and manage Foundations Portfolio Review (zero-credit, pass/fail).
• Support NASAD accreditation and institutional assessment efforts; contribute to student success and degree progression.
