Job Description

Position: Foster Home Care Lead Attendant

Supervisor: Foster Home Director

Division: Tribal Education Administration

Department: Foster Care

Responsibilities:

Foster Home Care Lead Attendant provides in-home care for children.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervise children at all times, ensuring their health and safety indoors and outdoors year-round.
  • Assist the house parent in planning and conducting home activities.
  • Supervise volunteers assigned to the home.
  • Ensure each child receives individual attention.
  • Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Follow policies and procedures for the operation of the childcare center.
  • Provide positive guidance to help children develop self-discipline.
  • Use portfolio system to gather and organize developmental data on children’s growth.
  • Maintain a developmentally appropriate environment for children.
  • Participate in training and professional development as per state guidelines and tribal programs.
  • Perform housekeeping tasks to maintain order in the childcare setting.
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with other staff.
  • Share responsibility for room and equipment maintenance.
  • Report hazardous conditions to the supervisor.
  • Meet minimum childcare standards established by the tribe.
  • Maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Communicate regularly with the supervisor.
  • Work as part of a team to ensure curriculum continuity and quality.
  • Assist in other projects as assigned.
  • Perform daily housekeeping related to activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding children, parents, and staff.
  • Understand Developmentally Appropriate Practices and growth of the age group.
  • Model appropriate language use.
  • Interact with children at their eye level during play.
  • Assist with toileting or diapering, lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Organize time effectively and show flexibility and humor.
  • Follow all policies, rules, and directives from superiors.
  • Supervise house staff and schedule accordingly.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent with 3 years of childcare or related experience, or working towards a CDA with experience, or related early educational background/experience.

Preferred Qualifications: CDA or bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or related field with 3 years of experience.

Disqualifying Criteria: Felony or multiple misdemeanor convictions involving violence, sexual assault, exploitation, or crimes against children.

Native American Preference: Preference for tribal members and qualified Native American applicants in accordance with tribal policies.
