FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM SPECIALIST - TEMPORARY PART-TIME - HILO, HAWAII ISLAND

Recruitment Number 25-0419 – This vacancy is with the Department of Human Services. This job posting will remain open until 25 applications are received.

Salary: $28.62 to $34.86 per hour (SR-20, Step D to I). This position is temporary; employees may gain civil service membership after probation.

Duties Summary

Conduct Foster Grandparents Program activities in a participating agency; supervise foster grandparents; and perform other related duties as assigned.

Sample duties include supervising volunteers in educational settings, selecting, orienting, training and assigning volunteers to school settings, and assessing program effectiveness.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

• Legal Authorization to work: U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident alien.
• Experience and Training: either (a) Six years of progressively responsible admin/professional experience comparable to a bachelor’s degree, with 2 years involving human and social problems, behavior techniques; or (b) Bachelor's degree plus two years of progressively responsible professional experience as above; or (c) Master’s degree in social work, human behavior or related field specializing in aged.

Knowledge and Abilities Required

• Knowledge of current social, economic, and community needs of older persons and children, including childhood development and education, and of organizations serving these populations.
• Ability to understand and apply federal and state laws, supervise foster grandparents, communicate effectively, analyze challenges, develop action plans, and prepare clear reports.
• Valid driver’s license.

Other Information

Employees appointed to temporary positions may gain civil service membership upon satisfactory completion of a six-month probation period. Employees then become eligible for promotion and transfer opportunities.
