Job summary

Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota is seeking a Family Development Specialist to help foster and adoptive families navigate licensing and complete home studies. You will partner with families and support them through the licensing process in collaboration with SD DSS/CPS.

The role supports families in multiple SD communities, with onsite positions in Aberdeen and Sioux Falls and remote/community-based options in rural areas. Travel is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field is required.
• Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or Licensed Social Work Associate through the SD Board of Social Work Examiners is required.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must successfully complete all agency background checks.
• Driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist families in navigating the process to become a foster or adoptive resource.
• Complete home study assessments for prospective foster and kinship families pursuing licensing and adoption.
• Partner with families to complete the home study process and provide resources and support throughout the process.
• Collaborate with the Licensing Team and South Dakota DSS/CPS.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field
