Job description

At Epiq , your work contributes to complex, global legal outcomes. You'll join a values-driven community where integrity guides decisions, relentless service sets the bar, and we thrive on big challenges together. We invest in your growth with enterprise-wide learning and mobility. We celebrate who you are, and we respect life beyond work with flexibility that's recognized externally. Enabled by modern platforms and AI, you'll do the most meaningful work of your career and see your impact at scale.

Job Description:
About Epiq AI Labs

Epiq AI Labs, established by Epiq in 2025, brings together builders, researchers, academics, legal professionals, and industry leaders to advance AI for complex legal and corporate challenges. Its work includes foundational AI research, large-scale data analysis, collaborative development of practical solutions, and AI education. Alongside research, the Labs leads the development of Epiq's flagship AI platform-the foundation for AI-powered workflows across litigation, compliance, antitrust, and other complex legal and corporate matters.

About the Role

As a Forward-Deployed Legal Engineer, you'll make our platform work inside real legal teams. You'll lead each client from proof-of-concept (POC) kickoff to go-live: configuring legal workflows the way the client's lawyers work, training the people who use them, and proving value against agreed success criteria.

You’ll work closely with associates and review teams, partner with our Legal Solutions Engineer, Customer Success Managers, and Engineering, and turn what you learn in the field into product direction. You'll work from our New York office and serve clients in every region, including EMEA and APAC.

What You'll Do
  • POC Delivery: Run POCs against agreed success criteria and keep each one on scope and on schedule.
  • Workflow Configuration: Build legal workflows and playbooks that reflect how each client's lawyers actually work, ready before the client's first matter.
  • Legal Expertise: Serve as the legal expert in each engagement, applying the law and procedure that govern the client's work, analyzing its documents, and advising on whether an output is defensible.
  • Deployment: Take each client from POC to go-live, working with Engineering on integrations.
  • User Training: Train associates, review teams, and other day-to-day users during each POC.
  • Issue Resolution: Spot client issues early and resolve them with Engineering, Product, and Customer Success Managers.
  • Clean Handoffs: Take over the use case, success criteria, stakeholders, data, and timeline at POC kickoff; hand each account to a Customer Success Manager at go-live and stay available for legal workflow questions.
  • Voice of the Client: Gather and organize client feedback, and turn it into use cases and user stories that shape the product roadmap.
What You Bring
  • A US JD, or a US LLM with a foreign law degree, and active or prior US bar membership.
  • 2-8+ years of legal practice, ideally in litigation. Practice experience matters more than seniority.
  • Hands-on experience with real legal workflows and direct client contact.
  • Working knowledge of the tools of legal practice, such as Relativity, DISCO, iManage, Westlaw, and Lexis, and of technology-assisted review (TAR).
  • Fluency with technology: you can write simple scripts, prompt LLMs effectively, and analyze outputs.
  • Daily use of AI in your own work, with examples you can walk through in interviews.
  • The ability to sit with a client's lawyers and rebuild a workflow, not just demo one.
  • Clear communication with both lawyers and engineers, including explaining complex legal concepts in plain terms.
  • Independence as an individual contributor, and the organization to run several POCs at once.
  • Willingness to spend meaningful time at client sites.
Nice to Have
  • eDiscovery or legal-tech experience.
  • Experience configuring software or building workflows.
  • Consulting or advisory experience.
  • Experience at an early-stage company.
  • Exposure to ML/AI concepts, synthetic data generation, or structured knowledge representation.
What Success Looks Like
  • POCs you run meet their success criteria and convert to signed clients.
  • Clients go live on schedule with workflows their lawyers use.
  • Use cases and user stories you bring back shape the roadmap.
